UNWELCOME COMPANION is a textural work displaying a single virus against a black background. Painted with the addition of sand grains to give texture and grit to the central image in contrast to the darkness from which it emerges.
Based on images taken through an electron microscope this work represents an image of the human immunodeficient virus, or HIV. It simplistic beauty in contrast with the harm it can do to a human body. Like a pop-art image if everyday objects this painting explores every day, yet unseen objects in a colourful and vibrant light.
