ISOLATION IN A CROWD is a work of repetition and a story of belonging.
Each figure within the canvas is painted in a different colour. Closer inspection reveals that each colour repeats across the crowd exploring how an individual will search out and find those people that share values or dreams in tune with their own. 1 sole figure sits on the canvas for which there are no others, a singular figure that cannot find members of his/her 'tribe' with which to gather.
Painted during a time of severe depression this painting was a pictorial representation of the emotional state in which I found myself. Although visually it is full of colour the inspiration was not bright or cheerful. Bright colour has become a recognizable feature of the majority of my work with darker, more somber colours rarely appearing on my canvas. This palette choice may not always connect with the themes I explore but are vital for my journey through them.
Despite the theme that inspired this piece the result is bright and fun and a great decor piece for a bright vibrant room.
