Shawn in the Shower is the second work in Dean Crozier’s Encounters series, a body of paintings that revisits intimate memories and the quiet vulnerability of past relationships. Here, a young man rests his face against the cool tiled wall of a shower cubicle, meeting the viewer’s gaze with a gentle, unguarded stillness. Water distorts the contours of his body, softening edges and blurring form, as though memory itself is shifting beneath the surface.
The cool blue geometry of the tiled wall heightens the warmth of Shawn’s pink‑toned skin, creating a striking chromatic tension between distance and closeness, detachment and tenderness. Dean’s use of synthetic polymer amplifies the luminous interplay of colour and moisture, capturing both the physical immediacy of the moment and the emotional resonance it carries.
This work reflects on lovers remembered—open, comfortable, and unselfconscious—inviting the viewer into a private encounter held gently between past and present.
